Dermal Fillers
How often have you heard someone say that they still feel the same today as they did when they were 20 years old? If 50 is the new 30, it is not surprising you want to look a little younger for longer, too. Some people are happy to think of the lines we acquire as laugh lines and ignore them. However, for others as the lines and wrinkles start to bother them they initially use a variety of creams and make-up. While Botox® is used to lift eyebrows, saggy cheeks and to make frown lines disappear; dermal fillers are used to replace facial volume, smooth the lines and restore skin elasticity, the most visible effects of skin ageing. Dermal fillers can restore skin tone and texture and even prevent future ageing.
Volume makes the difference
Ageing of the face is mostly due to the loss of facial volume. If you look at a person from a distance you would not be able to see fine lines and wrinkles but you could still roughly guess the persons age. Facial proportions play a big part in how we perceive beauty. Full cheeks, defined jawline and little fat around the neck equals a younger looking face. Increasing the facial volume around the cheek and chin area is therefore a very good way to improve facial proportions and to make a face look naturally younger.Dermal fillers such as Hydrafill Softline® for instance or Juvederm Ultra® are long lasting, soft, natural, non permanent and most of all silky smooth. Ideal for filling fine lines and wrinkles as well as restoring skin elasticity and youthful volume.
Results with Juvederm Ultra® or Hydrafill Softline®
After treatment with hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers such as Hydrafill Softline® or Juvederm Ultra®, the lines on your face should appear minimised and smoothed out. If your treatment plan included lip enhancement, you’ll notice that your lips appear fuller and more defined. If your plan included adding volume to your cheeks, you will notice that your cheeks look plumper and your face looks younger. In general, the effects of your treatment with temporary fillers last any time from 6 to 18 months.
Hyaluronic acid is present throughout our bodies, with 50% of it located in the skin. It occurs naturally in the deeper layers of our skin(the dermis), where it helps to keep skin smooth and ‘plump’ through its amazing ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. A way to think of Hyaluronic acid is as our skin’s own natural and internal moisturiser.
Hyaluronic acid in our skin gradually decreases over time. In fact, 50-year-olds are estimated to have less than half the amount of Hyaluronic acid they had in their youth. By the age of 40, signs start to show—skin starts to lose its elasticity and volume as lines and wrinkles appear. Injectable Hyaluronic acid gel is a modified form of the Hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in your body. Injections help replacing the missing Hyaluronic acid. HA serves to provide volume and internal moisturisation for your skin. Hyaluronic acid filler supports your skin and most types of scars, correcting skin deficiencies, and improving facial lines typically found between the eyes and around the mouth area. All it takes is a few simple injections to fill in and smooth away facial lines, acne scars, or other skin contour deficiencies.
Safety and Side Effects
Treatment is usually painless or just slightly uncomfortable, and your consultant may use a local anaesthetic for increased comfort. Immediately after treatment it’s perfectly normal to experience temporary minor stinging, sometimes moderate redness and swelling. Bruising can happen. Typically, these responses are temporary and, if they do occur, will usually go away within a couple of days.Lips might be alittle swollen after treatment and tender for 24 hours and during that time youshould avoid coffee, alcohol, hot drinks and the sun.Risks can includea small risk of allergic reaction to the filler or bruising of the treated area, or nodule formation. People with a history of cold sores may experience a recurrence after treatment, although this can be minimised by the use of antiviral medicines.
As a naturally based biological material, hyaluronic acid(HA) is similar to your body’s natural HA. In fact, it’s so similar you won’t need a skin test prior to treatment.
Recovery may take few hours to a few days, depending on the area treated and the type of filler used. Most people find that they can return to work or go about their normal daily activities immediately after treatment. Follow-up treatments are usually required to guarantee the best results. The effects of HA last 9 to 18 months. Keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different; the timing of any additional wrinkle treatment will vary from person to person. When repeat treatments occur over time, either the interval between appointments becomes longer, or less product is required to achieve the same results, or more areas can be treated with the same amount of product.
